Volunteers keeping popular Idaho trails in shape!

The Sawtooth Society is one of several organizations that enlist volunteers to help keep recreation at the Sawtooth National Recreation Area running smoothly.

The Sawtooth Society is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and enhancing the Sawtooth National Recreation Area (SNRA). The mission of the Sawtooth Society has been to preserve, protect, and enhance the special qualities of the SNRA. Over the years, this mission has been fulfilled through advocacy, enhancing the SNRA’s recreation facilities and services, facilitating stewardship of the SNRA, and coordinating volunteer programs.

The Sawtooth Society has championed a number of advocacy projects that focus on protecting the SNRA’s open spaces, enhancing its recreational facilities and services, and facilitating stewardship of this incredible natural asset.

Different trails take different resources. The Sawtooth society employs a trail crew of three. A bulk of their work is accomplished by recruiting volunteers. Traditionally the Sawtooth society has cleared 100 miles of trail in one season. They work with school groups and local businesses in the Treasure Valley. Their goal is to complete a list of trails the forest service requests them to clear as well as respond to public observations.
